PROPHECY PROSE EXCERPT
by
Arielle
*I wrote this in Prose para mas madaling maintindihan. But the manuscript I submitted to PHR was in the form of a comic/manga script.
Rajiv felt a strange premonition as he followed the Sentinel.
“Sir, I think we are going in the wrong direction, Gunrir is in the east.”
The Sentinel halted his horse and turned towards Rajiv. There was a strange smile on his face.
“The ninth monster has appeared. It is now time for Avatar’s arrival!”
Rajiv blinked. Something was wrong! He slowly backed away from the Sentinel.
“Y-You are not a Sentinel!”
The Sentinel laughed. Two horns began sprouting on the sides of his head. His armor burst opened as his body began to grow in size. Rajiv saw the Sentinel’s human body transforming into the body of a huge bull. His hands were becoming claws and his feet had turned to hooves!
Part of Rajiv urged him to flee. But fleeing was no longer an option. He unsheathed his sword and prepared to fight the monster.
“You are not human Rajiv. You are Avatar!” the monster roared.
Rajiv’s mind reeled from the revelation. Both his mind and heart cannot accept the words of the monster! He was not Avatar!
“Stop lying monster! I am human!” he shouted as he attacked.
His sword was quickly parried by the hand claws of the monster. Before he could strike again, the monster’s tail encircled his left foot and grabbed it! He lost his balance and found himself being momentarily suspended on air before being thrown to the ground.
“You cannot escape your fate Avatar!” the monster roared as his hoofed foot crashed down on Rajiv’s chest.
Blood splurted from Rajiv’s mouth.
“I will not become evil!” he screamed. He forced his hand to move inspite of the pain. He jammed his sword on the monster’s leg! But instead of injuring the monster, his sword broke in two!
The monster laughed. He knocked out the broken sword away from his hand.
“You will soon lose your human weakness, Avatar” the monster swore.
Rajiv blinked. Was he beginning to hallucinate? He was seeing monsters everywhere. All the monsters that had appeared in Severin were now gathering around him!
The former Sentinel lifted it’s hoof from Rajiv’s body and faced the mass of monsters.
“The prophecy would soon be fulfilled brothers!” it announced. It bent it’s huge body to retrieve the sword it carried a while ago as a Sentinel.
Rajiv tried to stand up but two huge monsters picked him up and held both his arms. They made him face the horned monster resembling a giant bull.
“It’s time for you to lead us Avatar!” the bull monster raised the sword and stabbed Rajiv’s chest!
Rajiv felt the sword enter his heart. Darkness enveloped him as his life seeped out of his body.
The bull monster picked up Rajivs bleeding body and held it up high.
“Our master will soon awaken and conquer this world for us!” he roared.
Shouts of joy and celebration greeted his words.

The world of Severin was engulfed by darkness. Rain came pouring down, as lightning and thunder filled the darkened skies. Earthquakes began happening everywhere. The resurrection of Avatar had begun. No one among the Sentinels, the Sorcerers and Scientists could do anything to stop the fulfillment of the Prophecy.
The legions of Avatar excitedly awaited the coming of their master. In a hidden cavern, several miles under the ground, Rajiv’s dead body lay on top of a stone altar. The altar is surrounded by bright fire illuminating the whole cavern. Standing on the right side of the altar was Morbius, the former Sentinel and monster that killed Rajiv. On the left side, stood Mara. Mara’s face was that of a beautiful woman, yet her hair were poisonous and hissing snakes, her lower body resembled that of a huge hairy spider.
The large wound in Rajiv’s chest began to close and heal. Slowly, his heart began to beat again. Dark life had now flowed on Rajiv’s body. The Prophecy had been fulfilled! The Avatar of Evil would now rise and bring the world of Severin into a new era of darkness!
Slowly, Rajiv’s eyes opened. He rose from the altar. Morbius and Mara immediately kneeled and bowed their heads to their master.
“Welcome to your new kingdom Master Avatar!” Mara said with deference.
Rajiv studied the two monsters before him. The silence remained for a few seconds before he finally spoke.
“Err, hello. Who are you guys?”
Mara and Morbius did not expect such words to come from their master. They looked at each other.
“How come he doesn’t know us?” whispered Mara to Morbius.
“I must have thrown him much harder than I thought when were were fighting.”
“You fool!” Mara hissed. “You could have damaged his head and his memories!”
“Don’t worry, master is strong. He will recover and he will soon regain his evil self!”
Morbius glanced at Rajiv.
“We should just help him remember us.”
Rajiv stoop up. Mara immediately raised her head and adressed him.
“I am Mara, Master Avatar. The eight of your minions sent to this world. I serve as your protector and adviser.”
Morbius immediately followed and introduced himself.
“I am called Morbius. The ninth of your minions sent to this world. I fight for you and lead your horde of monsters. I destroy all those who oppose you.”

Several days have passed yet Avatar’s memories have not returned to Rajiv. Morbius and Mara became worried as Rajiv continued to behave as if he was still human. The evil and heartless Avatar they have awaited have yet to manifest itself.
Right now, Rajiv was having dinner. The food he had ordered were human food instead of human flesh! The monsters assigned to the kitchen had been forced to steal and study a cook book in order to fulfill Rajiv's cravings.
“Thank you very much for preparing this food for me!” said Rajiv as he happily began eating each course the monsters served him.
Mara and Morbius who were watching from the corner of the dining hall were shocked by Rajiv’s words.
“H-He thanked the slaves!” Mara’s eyes bulged. “He should be ruthless!” she hissed in Morbius ears.
“I didn’t hit him that hard in the head!” protested Morbius. “This change in his personality is not my fault! Something must have gone wrong with the resurrection.”
“Then we must correct it!”
“How?” Morbius was puzzled.
“Kill him again!” ordered Mara.
Morbius was stunned by Mara’s words. But he knew, it was the only way to correct their mistake. He quietly took out his sharp sword and silently approached Rajiv from behind.
“Strike hard Morbius! He is much stronger now!” shouted Mara.
Morbius plunged the sword on Rajiv’s back! He was about to pull out the sword to strike again but it proved to be unnecessary. Rajiv sprawled dead on the dining table.
“He died so easily! Didn’t even fought back!” blurted Morbius as he glanced at Mara.
“Bring him back to the altar!” ordered Mara.

Once again the awakening of the most evil and ruthless being began...
The world of Severin was once again engulfed in darkness. Rain came pouring down, as lightning and thunder filled the darkened skies. Earthquakes were once again felt by the frightened populace.
No one among the Sentinels, the Sorcerers and Scientists could explain why the signs of the resurrection of Avatar was happening again!
Meanwhile, in the hidden cavern several miles under ther gound, Rajiv’s body was lying lifeless on the stone altar.
The wound from Morbius sword had disappeared. Dark powers have once again given life to Rajiv’s body. Morbius and Mara with bated breath awaited their master’s return to consciousness.
Rajiv opened his eyes. Morbius cautiously approached him.
“Master Avatar?”
Rajiv sat and yawned.
“That was such a long and refreshing sleep!” exclaimed Rajiv.
Mara’s face contorted with anger and frustration.
“He is not yet his evil self!” she shouted.
Morbius looked at Mara. Silently asking for instructions.
Mara angrily pointed her finger towards Rajiv.
“Kill him again Morbius!”
“Eh?” Rajiv wa puzzled.
“I said kill him again!”
Morbius sighed and took out his sword. And immediately murdered Rajiv.

Once again, the resurrection of Avatar…
Once again, darkness, lightning, thunder and earthquake created panic among the citizens of Severin.
But in the cavern below the ground, Morbius and Mara were both fuming mad! The resurrection had failed once again!
“Hello everyone!” Rajiv happily greeted the two monsters.
Mara could no longer contain herself. She rushed towards the smiling Rajiv and choked him!
“Be evil already you stupid master!” she snarled.
“Ark..! H-Help! Can’t breathe!” cried Rajiv.
Morbius decided to let Mara kill Avatar this time. He felt so tired with all this resurrection ritual. A frightening thought suddenly crossed his mind. What if the prophecy was wrong? What if the Avatar they had brought to Severin would never become evil?
